Reason for expectations:

About a decade ago, when Vijay was at the frenzied peak of his youth and career, Suriya’s films were not a matter of concern if they were released on the same day as Vijay’s. Ten years later and a after a few successful films, the tables are turned. For Diwali, when Velayudham and 7aum Arivu hit the screens on the same day, release of the latter is a surely a concern for the former.

But what with his decade of experience as an entertainer, Vijay might just get it right this time with Velayudham. Rumored to be the remake of the Telugu flick Azad, Velayudham is one man’s fight against the system and the evils plaguing it – corruption and suchlike. Nothing new to the man who has time and again proved his mettle at delivering such movies.

Vijay juggled his priorities between the Shankar directed Nanban and Velayudham while it was being shot. Produced by V. Ravichandran's Aascar Films, the movie took more than a year to finish. Directed by M Raja, Velayudham stars Vijay, Hansika Motwani and Genelia D'Souza in lead roles. Vijay supposedly plays a milkman. There is also Saranya Mohan, Santhanam, Sathyan, M S Bhaskar and Pandiarajan playing significant roles in the movie.

Scored by Vijay Antony, the audio was released recently by Sony Music. Although met with mixed response, the songs are expected to pick up after the movie’s release.

Level of expectations: 80%

Audiences: Releasing for Diwali, Velayudham is pitted against 7aum Arivu. It needs to have the best in entertainment if it needs to make people switch loyalties from 7aum Arivu. But for Vijay fans, it’s always a festive season.

Expectation : 10
