Reason for expectations: Silambarasan exactly knows how to pick the stories that work well for him. Osthe is a good example. The story of a crude and brash police inspector from the hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh fits the bill for Silambarasan who already has a similar reputation. Chulbul Pandey becomes Osthe Velan in this Dharani directed remake of the blockbuster Hindi film.
Other than the minor tweaks Dharani would have done in terms of changing names and locations, Osthe would not have undergone any major changes in terms of script. Because, Dabangg itself felt like it would fit into the framework of a Tamil film perfectly and that's part of the reason why this movie made big business and was declared the third highest grosser ever in Bollywood.
Dharani has managed to rope in Sonu Sood in Tamil again for playing the villain but it's Mallika who fills in the shoes of Malaika for the famous 'Munni Badnam', which is 'Kalasala' in Tamil. The song, released a few weeks ago, has the high pitched TR and L R Eswari singing what could potentially become a smash hit right right after the movie's release. The song is already quite popular now.
Osthe has Richa Gangopadhyay playing Simbhu's female lead with Githan Ramesh, Saranya Mohan, Santhanam, Revathy and Mayilsamy in important roles. Scored by Thaman and sung by a host of talented singers (including Baba Sehgal), the album has received good response as soon as it was released. Osthe is also seeing a huge release with 110 screens reserved for release in overseas. Releasing this weekend, the movie is distributed by Reliance Entertainment.
Level of expectations: 60%
Audiences: While Silambarasan fans will be curious for another movie of their favorite star, it'll be interesting to note how Dabangg's remake is made and how the regional flavors are retained in the film.
